Dr. Marjan Mashkour

Archaeozoologist

My main research interest is to investigate the acquisition and production systems in the prehistory. For my PhD I have worked in the Iranian central Plateau with a diachronic approach to subsistence economies from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. Part of my work aims at evidencing cultural and economic links between the Iranian central Plateau and the southern parts of Iran with central Asia. Also pastoralism and specially mobile pastoralism and long distance seasonal movements interest me particularly. Iran is my main field work but I do occasionally work also in adjacent countries on specific questions in order to investigate regional issues such as those developed in the SFB project. I have also been trained in biochemistry and I use this tool, for the understanding of the mobility of human societies in the past.
